Lot 3498 SHARPS NEW MODEL 1859 PERCUSSION U.S. INSPECTED

BREECHLOADING CARBINE. Cal. 52. 32209. Bbl. 22" rnd. Reattached front sight base missing the blade with Lawrence patent leaf rear sight. Straight breech action with Lawrence primer feed having saddle ring and bar on left side. Brass band fastened walnut forearm and straight grip stock with brass carbine buttplate and rectangular lid patchbox. Toeline of stock has inletted sling swivel. Left ear of the stock has a partially visible cartouche. Well over 100,000 New Model Sharps rifles and carbines were purchased by the U.S. Army & Navy during the Civil War. CONDITION: metal finish has a faded gray patina appearance with scattered small dents and marks. Forearm shows refinishing with scratches, marks, and dents. Stock has age darkened worn appearance showing numerous scratches, marks, and small dents. Sound mechanics. Dark heavily pitted bore. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection.
